So first you can note that all the emails downloaded to Outlook Express are usually stored in the local drive of your computer in .dbx files. When you want to recover the emails that you have accidentally deleted or those files that were corrupted, you need to use a recovery tool which is known as the OE – Mail Recovery. You can follow below steps to recover through downloading OE- Mail recovery.

  1. First you need to download the OE – Mail Recovery tool from the website. Once you have downloaded it, you just need to run the wizard to install it. After it has been installed, it will locate the storing file where your messages have been saved. Then you can see the storage file on the left panel.
  2. Now you have to select the folder where your messages that you want to recover are saved.
  3. Then you just need to check the boxes which are on the left side of the said messages. After that you just need to click on “Save e-mail”.

Recovery through safe mode Start up Outlook

Another way to recover your emails is through Safe Mode. You can follow below steps for this method:

  1. You just need to hold the CTRL key while clicking on the Outlook icon to go into the safe mode. Then you will see a pop up message asking you if you want to start Outlook in Safe Mode. To conofirm you need to click on Yes. All versions of Outlook can detect this action.
  2. To go into the safe mode you can also type “”outlook.exe /safe” on the Search box located in the Start Menu. This method will work only for Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  3. For Windows 8, you just need to type “outlook.exe /safe” after opening the Start Screen. The search box opens automatically once you start to type.
  4. For Windows 10, you just need to type “outlook.exe /safe” on the search box located on the Task bar. But in case you hid this feature, then you just need to open up the Start Menu and start typing the command, just as you did using Windows 8,
  5. In this case you can create a shortcut. First determine where outlook.exe is located in your computer. You can perform a search to find the location path and take note of it. Next, you can also do a right click on an empty space on your Desktop and then click on New. Select Shortcut later. Now you need to type the location path and put “ /safe” in addition. Then click on Next and rename the file afterwards, such as “Outlook Safe Mode”.

Forgotten password but letter can still be read

If you forgot your password then also you can actually read the letter. What you need is is just to look for the folder in your computer's local hard drive as to where such folder was saved. You can find the file with “.dbx” which is the case in general. They also contain the name of the folder that is in your Outlook.

Removing the email account entirely from Outlook

You can follow below steps to remove the email account entirely from Outlook:

  1. First open up the Outlook application by clicking on the icon. After it opens, you need to click on File at the top left and then select your email account. Then you should click on the “Account Settings” box and choose “Account Settings...” again.
  2. Then you will get a dialog box. You just need to click once on the email account that you want to remove and click on the “Remove” button.
  3. Now you will notice a blank Outlook application, unless you more than one accounts set up on it.
